A rookie and a stalwart of the series will line up for EMA Motorsport in an exciting two-car entry into this year’s Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia. The team returns for a fifth season, running with the highly experienced David Russell alongside exciting talent, Max Geoghegan, who will make his series debut at the weekend in Melbourne.

Making the transition from competing in Super2 and in GT4 competition last season, 23-year-old Max Geoghegan will compete in the #53 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. Grandson of five-time Australian Touring Car champion and Bathurst 1000 winner, Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan, Max has proven himself to be the latest generation of talent. Impressive form since making his racing debut in 2022 has already seen success, claiming championships in both the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup and Scholarship Series in 2024.

Series regular David Russell returns to the EMA Motorsport line-up, having scored a win and seven further podiums team during the team’s debut campaign in 2022. Now entering his 10th season, and running in the #2 ‘Hire-a-Hubby’ backed entry, he has proven himself as a consistently competitive feature of the Carrera Cup Australia grid over the years. With a career-best championship finish as runner up in 2015, he continues to fight at the front of the field, ending last season 3rd in the standings.

Max Geoghegan, Porsche 911 (992) GT3 Cup #53: “I am really excited to be making this step across to the Carrera Cup Australia, and to be running with EMA Motorsport. I have spent some time with the team recently testing, and it’s been great to get to know everyone and to spend time in the car, getting up to speed pretty quickly. I cannot wait to be out on track next week in Melbourne. It will be a case of learning with the team over the early races, but I feel like I have a really strong crew behind me, and so much experience with David [Russell] alongside me in the garage. Collectively, there is a lot of knowledge of what it takes to win in this championship, and we will be putting our best foot forward to fight for some strong results throughout the year.”

David Russell, Porsche 911 (992) GT3 Cup #2: “It’s great to be back at EMA Motorsport for the 2026 season. We’ve shared some great success together in the past, and really looking forward to working with the whole team again this year. It’s also great to continue in Porsche Carrera Cup for my tenth season, and I’d like to thank the whole team for this opportunity.”

Marcus Cole, EMA Motorsport Team Manger: “It is fantastic to be confirming David and Max for the season. We have been working very hard over the summer to prepare and I’m delighted to see those efforts pay off with this strong two-car entry. It’s great to welcome David back to the team after a few years competing against him! He brings a wealth of knowledge of the car and the championship, and it is exciting to have Max joining us for his rookie season. It will be a steep learning curve, but we have been really impressed during testing, and I have every faith in the team we have built around him and David, that we should be fighting at the sharp end.”
